Afrolume

Our story

Clothing that carries light

Afrolume celebrates color, rhythm and the textile traditions that taught the world how bold and joyful clothing can be.

The name says it: Afro, for the heritage and the culture, and lume, for light. We make clothes you can see from across the room, and clothes that make you feel seen when you put them on.

Our prints are inspired by West African wax-print and strip-weave traditions: the bold scale of wax-print cloth, and the rhythm of narrow-loom bands stitched side by side. We admire those traditions too much to copy them. So we don't reproduce named cloths, trademarked designs or sacred symbols. Every Afrolume pattern is an original, drawn in-house from scratch.

Each piece is printed and sewn to order by production partners in the USA. Making only what's ordered means less waste, and every piece is made for you.

What we stand for

  • Original over borrowed. We draw our own patterns and credit the traditions that inspire them.
  • Joy is the point. Color is a mood, and we pick ours on purpose.
  • Made, not stockpiled. Everything is made to order, and we fix anything that arrives wrong.
